Join us every third Thursday* of the month for an informative presentation on disaster and emergency preparedness. Each session will focus on a different topic and outline steps to prepare for various emergencies, including winter storms, earthquakes, and wildfires. (*The June presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, to accommodate the Juneteenth holiday.)
Elizabeth Bindschadler and Dick Illman will show you how to create a family reunification plan in case of a local disaster. They will share ways to communicate with family, discuss what you will need to shelter in your home for an extended period, and explain how and when should you evacuate.
Elizabeth Bindschadler has volunteered with the Neighborhood Preparedness (NPREP) team for 10 years and focuses on providing preparedness information and training to individuals and neighborhood organizers. She is also a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout/Boy Scout leader and has a 32-year civilian career with the U.S. Department of Defense.
Dick Illman is a 10-year Jefferson County resident who retired from a 40-year technical career with Motorola. He is also the President of the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club and the Jefferson County ARES Emergency Coordinator.
These presentations are a collaborative effort among organizations that support emergency preparedness and response in Jefferson County. Throughout the year, you will hear from Neighborhood Preparedness (NPREP), Volunteer Emergency Communications (VECOM), the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and more.
