Dear Friend,
When the Jefferson County Library bookmobile was totaled in an accident earlier this year, it was more than the loss of a vehicle—it was the loss of a gathering place. For many of our neighbors, the bookmobile was their branch library: a warm welcome on wheels that rolled up each week with fresh books, friendly faces, and a connection to the larger world.
But the spirit of the bookmobile lives on—thanks to you.
Because of community support and staff creativity, our outreach team quickly put the new electric outreach van—the eVan—into service. Each week, the eVan brings the library inside community spaces throughout Jefferson County: the Brinnon and Quilcene Community Centers, Cape George Firehall, Coyle Community Center, Port Ludlow, Gardiner, and more.
Inside those spaces, residents can once again browse and borrow, pick up holds, and talk with familiar staff who know their names and reading tastes. Patrons tell us how much it means to have the library come to them:
“When you roll up with fresh books and movies, it brings the library to life in our community. We need something like this to lift us up.”
These visits are a lifeline—and they are possible only because the eVan helps us keep mobile library service rolling while we plan for a new, boardable bookmobile.
Our Long-Term Vision
The Library District remains fully committed to replacing the bookmobile that was lost. Planning and design are already underway, but as you can imagine, creating a fully boardable, accessible vehicle takes time—likely over a year, from start to finish.
We won’t let that wait time mean lost service.
Our Immediate Need
Right now, the eVan allows us to reach people—but it’s working hard beyond its current design. Staff load and unload small browsing collections by hand for every visit. With your help, we can outfit the eVan to serve more patrons, more efficiently, and more safely.
Your gift to this year’s Winter Giving Campaign will fund essential upgrades, including:
- Custom shelving to safely display and transport books and media
- A rear lift and rolling carts to move larger collections easily into community centers
- Lighting and workspace for staff delivering books, media, and programming
These improvements will make the eVan a powerful bridge to the future, allowing us to bring a true mini-library experience to every stop until the new bookmobile is ready to roll. With your support, these enhancements can be installed in early 2026, expanding our mobile service quickly and sustainably.
How You Can Help
Your generosity this winter will make a direct, visible difference. When you give to Jefferson County Library, you’re helping us keep knowledge, connection, and joy moving through every corner of our county. We’ll honor each donation by adding a paper snowflake to a special display in the library.
Please make your tax-deductible Winter Giving donation today to help outfit the eVan and keep library access alive for everyone. Donate now.
