November 24, 2024

Greetings, library friends and supporters,

Winter Giving Snowperson with blue hat and scarf.

This past year has been filled with exciting (and some unexpected!) events. In the “positive and exciting” category - we received our new all-electric eTransit van and are about to deploy it to meet our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. We also engaged the services of the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services Energy Program to perform a full facility energy audit – this audit is ongoing and we expect the results to assist with grant funding toward our solar, LED lighting, water conservation, and other energy/sustainability projects. And just last month, a mobility lift was installed on the Bookmobile so that patrons using wheelchairs, walkers, or dealing with other mobility challenges can more easily access our collections.

In the “unexpected” category – in early 2024, we were informed that a large section of the library roof was failing and needed to be replaced (the work was completed in mid-2024). We also dealt with maintenance and repair challenges with our Bookmobile, a beloved and essential service to residents, that took the vehicle out of service for significant periods. However, throughout the excitement and unexpected challenges, our staff have continued their commitment to “feeding minds and fueling dreams” – and stellar programs, diverse materials, and high-quality services have continued to be delivered non-stop to the residents of unincorporated Jefferson County.

What’s ahead for your Library District? In late 2024 a new website will be deployed that is mobile-friendly, easier to navigate, and meets accessibility requirements for our patrons who have vision challenges. We are also within just a few months of having a new Annex building placed on our grounds that will allow us to shift administrative staff and create internal space to begin hiring essential public services positions. Please consider making a year-end gift to help us achieve our goals - you may Donate online, drop off a contribution at the Library or on the Bookmobile, or mail a check to:

We can also receive gifts of securities or IRA-required minimum distributions; if you would like to know more about donation options, please contact Library Director Tamara Rotz or call the District at 360-385-6544.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can work toward our vision of “A thriving community empowered by knowledge.”

Sincerely,
