Join the Teen Community Read! Free Lunch by Rex Ogle follows Rex's true story navigating his first semester of middle school, facing challenges like cafeteria choices, not making the football team, and wearing a handmade Halloween costume. Labeled as trouble due to his secondhand clothes and hunger, Rex deals with a tense home life marked by unemployment and violence. After his family is evicted, he moves into government-subsidized housing near his school and avoids being seen by his peers by staying in the classroom until the buses leave.
