Important Message:

We are sorry to announce that our Bookmobile was in an accident, and it looks as if it will be declared a total loss. Most importantly, the employees involved are safe and unharmed. They’ve been checked on and are being supported.

In the coming days, we’ll begin assessing next steps for outreach services and vehicle replacement. It’s too soon to know the full timeline, but we will keep you informed as plans develop.

This is a big loss, but it’s one we will recover from together. Please join me in expressing appreciation and care for the Bookmobile team. We are so grateful that everyone is okay.

Program Description

Event Details

Join us for a discussion with local author Betsy Howell about her new collection of essays, Wild Forest Home: Stories of Conservation in the Pacific Northwest. Betsy will present a brief slideshow and share insights from her careers in wildlife biology and writing. She will also share excerpts from Wild Forest Home and highlight some of the wildlife species she has encountered over the past thirty years. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Betsy L. Howell grew up in the Pacific Northwest and spent her childhood exploring and thriving in old-growth coniferous forests. In the summer of 1986, she volunteered in Mt. Hood National Forest, surveying northern spotted owls. That summer position turned into three decades as a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Forest Service during a time of tremendous change within the agency.
