Important Message:

We are sorry to announce that our Bookmobile was in an accident, and it looks as if it will be declared a total loss. Most importantly, the employees involved are safe and unharmed. They’ve been checked on and are being supported.

In the coming days, we’ll begin assessing next steps for outreach services and vehicle replacement. It’s too soon to know the full timeline, but we will keep you informed as plans develop.

This is a big loss, but it’s one we will recover from together. Please join me in expressing appreciation and care for the Bookmobile team. We are so grateful that everyone is okay.

Join Mountaineer Dixie Havlak as she helps you prepare for your next hiking adventure! Learn how to pack a daypack with the 10 essentials appropriate to your journey, review gear and clothing to bring, and discuss ways to choose the best hike for your group, skill level, and interest. Dixie will also outline Leave No Trace ethics to help preserve the forest we love. Registration Required.

Dixie Havlak has been a hike leader, instructor, and family activities coordinator with the Mountaineers for over 20 years. As a professional dietitian, she helps outdoors people to optimize their experiences with good nutrition, but also with good preparation, appropriate gear, and good planning. As a 10-year retiree and more recent grandparent, she appreciates the pleasure and benefits of getting outdoors with other adults but also as a mentor for kids. As a native of western Washington, she thinks there is no better place to share than the woods and waters of the Pacific Northwest.
