Trustee Vacancy

With the retirement of a term-limited Trustee, the Jefferson County Library District is seeking a new member to join its five-member Board. This opportunity gives community members a chance to help shape library services for the more than 22,000 people who live within our service area.  Trustees are appointed by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners for 5-year unpaid terms.

A Library Trustees are responsible for the following:

  • Approval and oversight of annual Library budget
  • Hiring and supervision of Library Director
  • Advocating for the Library throughout the community
  • Setting Library’s mission and strategic plan
  • Measuring the success of strategic plan objectives
     
Library Trustees Don’t:
  • Manage the library staff or day-to-day operations
  • Create library programing
     
Applications are sought from Jefferson County residents, living outside the city limits of Port Townsend, who are passionate about libraries and serving their community.  Trustees spend approximately three to five hours per month on Library business, including monthly meetings in Port Hadlock.
Successful applicants will have experience with one or more of the following Board focus areas: 
 
  • Government finance and budgeting
  • Strategic planning
  • Fund raising or levy measures
  • Public advocacy
