Readers Dig Into Reading this Summer!

This was an especially great summer for readers at Jefferson County Library!  Folks of all ages participated in the Summer Reading Program, including our first ever adult reading program.  Hundreds of books were read and over 1,500 people attended a variety of programs and events that made learning fun.

The theme of this year’s children’s Summer Reading Program was “Dig Into Reading,” featuring programs exploring history, archaeology, fossils, ancient art, world cultures and poetry.

A highlight of the children’s program was the Diggerator, a sculpture made of wood and glass, featuring historic 3-dimensional painted objects that were revealed as kids dug into the world below.

Teens had their own highly imaginative Summer Reading Program that featured an ingenious reading log that suggested reading activities and recommended genres for exploration.

The Adult Summer Reading Program highlighted “groundbreaking” reads, a program with nationally recognized author Aaron Elkins and a drawing for dinner for two donated by the Ajax Café.

Kids Celebrate Summer Reading

Congratulations to the kids and teens who participated in this year’s Summer Reading Program, “Reading is Out of this World!”  It was a record-breaking year with 410 kids and 114 teens joining in the fun!

The reading portion of the program isn’t over until Labor Day.  Kids and teens are encouraged to continue reading, receiving prizes and adding more rocket fuel to our reading rocket.  A special thank you to Drew Elicker for creating the rocket in the Children’s Room, which clocked over 4,200 hours of reading.

Thanks to the Friends of the Jefferson County Library for providing reading incentives and fabulous programming.  We also extend our thanks to the adults and teen volunteers who helped throughout the summer.
