Film Screening - Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety

Help to Manage Anxiety: Free movie screening of “Angst” at Chimacum High School

Jefferson County Library and Chimacum Prevention Coalition are co-sponsoring this free public screening of the Indie Flix movie Angst at the Chimacum High School auditorium. The film explores anxiety, its causes, effects and what we can do about it.

The filmmakers’ goal is to have a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Following the 56-minute film (appropriate for ages 11 and up) will be a 45-minute guided discussion with a panel of participants, including: Jean Scarboro, LMHC; Paige Johnson, a teen from Poulsbo who struggles with anxiety, and her mother, Julie Johnson, who has helped support Paige. Audience members will be invited to ask questions and will be provided with handouts containing tips to help manage anxiety, as well as a list of local resources.

Prior to the public evening screening, the movie Angst will be shown to students in assemblies at both the Chimacum High School, and the Chimacum Middle School. Students will be encouraged to invite their parents to the public evening screening.

The movie Angst features candid interviews with kids and young adults who suffer, or have suffered, from anxiety and what they’ve learned about it. The film includes discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, as well as help, resources and tools.

Jean Scarboro, LMHC is a National Board Certified Counselor and has her school counseling certificate in WA. Jean has been working as a mental health counselor and/or school counselor in Port Townsend for 7 years and has a private practice at Prosper Natural Health Center in Port Townsend.
