DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR - OVERVIEW
The Jefferson County Library will be holding a bond election in 2012 for the expansion and renovation of the library in Port Hadlock. In conjunction with that election, the library is launching a private capital campaign to fund key building improvements that fall outside of the bond. The Development Coordinator will be a key member of the team that inaugurates that effort. The Development Coordinator will coordinate day-to-day organizational activities of the capital campaign, in support of the director, associate director, the board and a variety of campaign committees. The position implements strategies to enlarge the library's base of community support, works with campaign volunteers to realize capital fundraising goals, staffs community campaign committees, manages and implements database and office systems and coordinates the campaign's workflow. The position reports directly to the library director and serves as a member of a variety of project teams with the director, associate director, trustees and campaign chairs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the development of capital campaign activities including cultivation, events, research and stewardship.
- Oversees and maintains the overall campaign schedule (in collaboration with the library director).
- Manages day-to-day campaign workflow including database and office systems to ensure smooth campaign operations.
- Creates, organizes and maintains files, database and tracking documents for donors and prospects.
- Provides organization and oversight of donor communications.
- Prepares written campaign documents and manages the creation of campaign-related publications including case statements, newsletters, donor recognition materials and donor communications.
- Generates routine correspondence, tracks status of mailings and maintains correspondence files.
- Serves as a member of campaign committees.
- Organizes and coordinates meetings of campaign committees by booking meetings, preparing and disseminating agendas and materials, taking and disseminating minutes and tracking and reporting activities.
- Researches and participates in the application for public and private grants.
- Plans campaign fundraising events.
- Participates in the production of a general library newsletter, twice annually.
REQUIREMENTS
- Passion for the public library and an understanding of its value to society, is required.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of library, public relations, communications, business administration, or marketing education and training, is preferred.
- At least 3-5 years of fundraising experience with library or other non-profit organizations, is preferred.
- Experience in using and maintaining a donor database for targeted fundraising, is preferred.
- Knowledge of the local Jefferson County community, is preferred.
- Knowledge of fundraising techniques including all aspects of proposal development, prospect identification, fund solicitation and donor tracking.
- Able to manage the day-to-day workflow of a one-person office and perform a full range of clerical, support and communication functions.
- Working knowledge of modern office practices and current technologies including the Internet, social networking and web-based tools.
- The ability to gather and analyze data and accurately prepare and process a variety of reports, records and documents using standard office equipment and databases, spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Superb oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- A polished presence and strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- The ability to take personal initiative and show mature independent judgment in a wide variety of situations.
- The ability to prioritize and schedule work, work with minimal supervision and handle demanding schedules and deadlines.
- The ability to work closely with high profile volunteer leadership.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, other libraries, community groups, library patrons and the general public.
- A desire to take on challenges and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment characterized by creative thinking and close collegial relationships.
HOURS
20-30 per week depending upon the need. This a one-year contract position subject to renewal.
PAY
$20-$22.50 per hour.
