You can use the Jefferson County Library wireless network service from your own laptop, PDA, or other 802.11b or 802.11g-compliant wireless device. Connecting to the Wireless Network:
1) Plug in your laptop's power cord (if needed). In most cases you will not need to change the settings on your laptop to connect. If your computer doesn't find the wireless access point on its own, make sure your wireless settings are correct. Correct settings: Network name or SSID: Jefferson County Library Wireless Mode or Network Type: Access Point or Infrastructure (not "Ad Hoc") Network properties: Use DHCP (Obtain an IP address automatically) WEP: Disabled If you normally use a different Wi-Fi network (with a different SSID) your computer may not find our network automatically. Try opening your wireless settings and starting a new network scan, or changing the settings by typing in the information above. You may also need to restart your computer after changing the settings. Logging On to the Wireless Network: Once your settings are correct and your computer finds the wireless access point, open up your web browser. You will get a login page. To log in, type in the number from your CLAN Library card (numbers only - no spaces). You will also need to enter the last four digits of the phone number we have on file for you. If you are not a resident and are visiting the area you may apply for a temporary library card which will allow temporary access to our network. A library staff member can help you. Special notes:
If you try logging in with your library card number and phone number, and you get a "Failed to logon" message, then you either mistyped your information or there is a problem in your library account - usually something wrong or out of date in the patron information we have on file for you. Please check with the circulation desk staff. They can update your patron record if you have moved or changed phone numbers. If you get "A valid IP address could not be determined" message, then there is most likely a problem with the wireless service itself. If you let the library staff know when this occurs, they can notify the technical staff. Go to wireless login page |
